Williams

We ended Friday in Williams

We had dinner at the Italian Bistro.  It came as a recommendation from our Inn Keeper.

Sights around town

Kendall reserved the Route 66 room at Legacies Bed and Breakfast

Kingman to the Grand Canyon Caverns

There were caverns along the route discovered in 1927.  They held several names over the years including Dinosaur Caverns.  They are called Grand Canyon Caverns because when doing a test with a smoke bomb to find out the ventilation flow, the smoke came out at the Grand Canyon - 40 miles away as the crow flies.

He's mighty tall!

Our greeter when we entered the building.

Inside the Cavern

The owners think they may need to use it for survival one day.  There are enough supplies for 2,000 for several weeks.

You can rent a room in the cavern for the night at $700 a couple.  Total darkness and quiet!

The elevator we were happy to have take us down and back up to the surface.

Oatman to Kingman

We arrived in Kingman and checked out the local museums and had lunch at a great diner.

Lunch at Mr. D'z.  The hambure was flame broiled and sooooo good!

Chocolate Milkshake for me and a Homemade Rootbeer for Kendall

Topock to Oatman

The official start of the Rt. 66 portion of our trip.

The town of Topock doesn't exist anymore.  All that is left is the Trails Arch Bridge that carries gass and utility lines across the Colorado River.

Let the journey begin!

The first 'town' we came to was Oatman, once booming with gold miners.  It is now a tourist town with shops and restraurants.  Althogh the town is known for the wild burros, we didn't see any.  Maybe it was because we were there too early in the morning.

London Bridge

Wow, post #500!  Who knew I had so much to say.

Friday morning we headed to Lake Havasu City to stroll along the old London Bridge as we headed north to join up with the western end of Rt. 66 in Arizona.

Rt. 66!

Since Jason & Moya as well as Lois had a good time on the Mother Road, we decided to take a long weekend and experience the portion that goes through Arizona.

We headed west on Thursday evening and spent the night in Parker.  Parker holds good memories for us as the place we spent our second date going to a race.

We had dinner at the Paradise Cafe

Wildflowers from Winter, A Novel by Katie Ganshert

Wildflowers from Winter, A Novel by Katie Ganshert

What a great writer!  Katie Ganshert knows how to write a romantic novel that doesn’t get too sappy or too ‘preachy’ for being in the Christian section of the bookstore.  The main character of the novel, Bethany Quinn struggles with her imperfect childhood and the memories that come with it, changes in her present and what the future might hold.  Thinking she has it all together in her professional life, she has to deal with all the suppressed emotions of her past when her grandfather is ill and then dies, leaving her 500 acres of farmland.  What’s a girl to do?   The story is so well written as it takes us through her discoveries and healing, allowing her to open up to possibilities for a brighter future.  A must read!

Does Snow and Camping Mix?

Since Kendall's friend wasn't able to join him on this long planned 4-day weekend, I was a willing substitute.  Thursday morning we headed north east to the mountains of eastern Arizona, knowing that there was a good chance of 'weather'.

The view from our campsite

Thursday after setting up camp we took a little hike around the area

This is on the other side of the lake from our site

Friday we did a little fishing - Kendall did more than me

...And then this was what we awoke to on Saturday morning!
 Brrrrrrrrr

We think we got about 6 inches

It was a beautiful sight as we took a tour around the campground

Lucky for us that we had movies and books for inside activities; so the answer is - Yes, you can camp in the snow.

We had a low key Easter this year.  We attended the early service at church and then out to brunch.

Hockey

Thursday we used tickets that we had for a hockey game.  We were the third row up from the ice - fairly close to the action.  And to make the evening complete - our team won and secured a place in the playoffs!
